purple candy floss skies
it burned, it bloomed
on the windowsill,
tulips bend and pray
some bend from laughter,
their bellies aching
from the humor of the sun
some hide their faces,
the warmth
too warm for them
and i know exactly
how it burns
on my forearms
on that wednesday,
i can almost remember,
while driving
towards the warmth
i remember
it burned
it burned away that day,
that guilt we called love
it evaporated
into clouds of purple candy floss,
into sunrises
of butter on toast
and orange juice
purple candy floss skies
you hold them in your hand
