tell it to the ghosts/this is no place
empty & light

tell it to the ghosts, your secrets and your sins
because everyone has already left the party
it was like the power went out in the middle of it
like someone pressed the pause button on the fun
like the voices and the laughter were muted
but you kept going on and on without realizing
you danced to invisible music, you hugged the moon and took her for a spin
i remember i thought it was weird
but i don’t anymore
i get it now why you needed to keep going
why you needed to lie to yourself
when the lightbulbs needed changing, and the bowl of chips was empty
when everyone went to bed, and you couldn’t sleep
it was like the only thing you could do was smile at the world around you
and dance in it, even though it was empty
and now i see why, you told it all to the ghosts

this is no place for the light
not your imaginary one, the artificial one you try to carry like it means something
once, i remember them trying to take it from you
but you held on, and you screamed
your hands bled on the ground, and your nails broke trying
sitting on the earth was like putting it on fire
nevermind, you did burn it all down
and it turned to ash, and it sprouted again
and there were new flowers, never before seen
what about the light now? will you return it here to nourish the earth?
here where you lay your secret, your heart, your fire
here where the light wasn’t supposed to be
but ends up blazing and glowing
here where the light dances around now, and jumps from sin to sin
here where the light came to stay and planted itself
this is a place for the light

wow. i'm honestly speechless and on the verge of tears. i read this three times because i wanted to feel every word so deeply and they penetrated my heart and resurfaced memories that were tightly held within the muscle. it takes so much talent and heart to weave poetry that pulls emotions out of people, and you've done just that. thank you for sharing this, im in awe of you my friend 😭
Profound and complex, so so deep. I love this one so so much!! Thank you for sharing this incredible poem, nadia! 🖤
