The “Yearning & Other Dangerous Acts” series is a devotional to desire & nature. Each piece begins with a longing so deep it fractures reality, letting the mythic leak through.
In ten parts, I float down the river of yearning: I Just Wanna Eat the Sun, I Just Wanna See the Air, I Just Wanna Kiss the Moon, I Just Wanna Touch the Earth, I Just Wanna Drink the Sea, I Just Wanna Steal the Stars, I Just Wanna Braid the River’s Hair, I Just Wanna Bury My Heart in the Garden, I Just Wanna Howl at the Moon with the Wolves, I Just Wanna Set the Sky on Fire.
Receive these poems as acts of becoming. Of setting yourself aflame in order to know what it means to burn, and still bloom.
Welcome to the yearning. Step in barefoot, read it loud, scream if you need to.
Above all, want freely.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i wanna return to the wilderness.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i wanna shed my name and forget it.
i wanna burn my clothes.
i wanna break all my oaths.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i wanna break all the rules.
i want no family, no home.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i want fur to be in the place you expect glass skin to be.
i want fangs to be in the place you'd expect a smile to be.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i wanna be out at midnight,
and be the predator this time.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i wanna remember all the stories told around fires.
i wanna live inside the myths.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i want to yearn for the woman in the sky,
the one that moves the waters i drink from.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i want my voice to be heard and feared,
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
i wanna lurk in the shadows,
live in the forest, deep in the woods,
where you can never find me again.
i just wanna howl at the moon with the wolves.
and if i have to kill to survive, so be it,
at least i won’t be killed this time.
ahhh the untamed, wild longing in this feels like fire underneath my skin. i love this so much. it makes me want to run, stamp my feet in the mud and sink my teeth into my own rage.
That last line 🔥🔥🔥
