The “Yearning & Other Dangerous Acts” series is a devotional to desire & nature. Each piece begins with a longing so deep it fractures reality, letting the mythic leak through.
In ten parts, I float down the river of yearning: I Just Wanna Eat the Sun, I Just Wanna See the Air, I Just Wanna Kiss the Moon, I Just Wanna Touch the Earth, I Just Wanna Drink the Sea, I Just Wanna Steal the Stars, I Just Wanna Braid the River’s Hair, I Just Wanna Bury My Heart in the Garden, I Just Wanna Howl at the Moon with the Wolves, I Just Wanna Set the Sky on Fire.
Receive these poems as acts of becoming. Of setting yourself aflame in order to know what it means to burn, and still bloom.
Welcome to the yearning. Step in barefoot, read it loud, scream if you need to.
Above all, want freely.
i just wanna set the sky on fire.
i just wanna set my life on fire.
i wanna climb the atmosphere
with matches in my mouth.
i just wanna set the sky on fire,
light up everything i've ever lost.
i just wanna set the sky on fire,
turning blue into blazing orange,
flames raining down.
i just wanna set the sky on fire,
a fresh start for everyone i know.
i just wanna set the sky on fire.
i wanna pour gasoline over the sun and clouds.
i wanna sit on them and meditate,
until my sacral bursts into shining white light.
i just wanna set the sky on fire,
a fire that starts from within my being.
i wanna see everything around me on fire,
and once it’s cleansed
i wanna hear eternity to sing back to me.
i just wanna set the sky on fire.
i wanna take a canvas and oil paints,
capture it forever.
i just want to set the sky on fire.
imagine what a beautiful sunset that would be,
angels singing,
playing trumpets on the flames.
i just wanna set the sky on fire.
i just wanna write the book of my life on the sky,
and spread its ashes in the sea.
i just wanna set the sky on fire,
and what a lovely sky that would be.
Omg this was the best ending to the series ever!! Your desire setting the sky ablaze. It felt like the perfect culmination of all these beautiful poems. I loveee the image of you climbing the atmosphere with matches in your mouth, that was so powerful. I don't know if I'll look at the burning colours of sunset the same ever again 🌅🧡
a fresh start for everyone i know — the meaning behind that, literally had to exhale. Ponder what it would mean to have a fresh start, I’m thinking big, not just life changing but world changing — if only.
Also found this part particularly interesting
“just wanna write the book of my life on the sky, and spread its ashes in the sea.”
Its rebirth, creation, death but also reads like an incantation, as if you are foretelling your own fairytale, your life spun into words burned and made real through this ritual idk if im making sense? I just recall a practice we did once in yoga teacher training. Where we all wrote our wishes and then burned them, letting them float into the ether as if you tell the universe, the gods, ancestors - now it’s your turn to work your magic, I wash my hands of it.
